I told quite a few staff nurses which one of them was the most talked about person in the hospital, from my general observations as those new fresh eyes that HR talks about. I was surprised that none asked me who was the second or even the third most talked about. Why do you care? This book is to help you to NOT become #1, #2 or #3 in that list or worse … to even lose your contract. I’ve informally polled lot’s of nurses and will use their quotes anonymously or unanonymously (as they chose) throughout this book. Filled with humor, satire, serious comments, do’s and don’t (YOU know how nurses are), unit rules (that aren’t listed in the policy and procedures that no one seems to read anyway), negatives, positives, and overall general things they wished that you knew before you showed up in their unit to work for 4, 8, 13 weeks or heavens forbid … took a permanent position.
